When Diddy went through his various name changes . . . he just DID IT, and didn't care what anybody thought.  Unfortunately, Gucci Mane doesn't have those stones.

Yesterday, Gucci went on Twitter to announce he was changing his name.  He Tweeted, quote, "On July 2nd, I'm officially changing my rap name to Guwop and retiring the great Gucci Mane.

"Thanks fans, for eight years as Gucci.  Now, it's 'Wop' turn."

But Gucci's followers weren't shy about sharing their thoughts . . . and they emphatically SLAMMED Gucci's new name.  Here's a sample of just SOME of the reactions Gucci got:

 "Please don't do that."

"I do not consent to this."

"I'm not gonna call you Guwop, dumbass.  Just so you know."

 "U trippen cuh."

"Shut the eff up son."

I've been a fan since Day One . . . don't change ya name, bruh, I'll be upset."

Are you serious Gucci?  Don't change your name dude, please."

I hope Gucci Mane don't change his name to no [effing] Guwop."

If Gucci Mane actually changed his name to Guwop I'd literally kill myself because that is one of the only things I actually care about."

Gucci Mane is changing his name to Guwop.  His name actually got worse."

Crap], I was gonna change MY name to Guwop today, but looks like Gucci Mane got there first."

I support Guwop in whatever he does.  LOL."

Guwop sounds like something you'd hear out of a Dr. Seuss book."

I'm just glad he waited until Black History Month was over to announce this."

I mean, the name Gucci Man was wack, too.  You just got used to it."

Gucci saw the avalanche of negative reactions coming in . . . and immediately changed his mind.  About a half-hour after his initial announcement, he Tweeted, quote, "I am officially NOT changing my name to Guwop.

It will officially stay Gucci Mane due to my fans' response."

This didn't stop the sarcastic Tweets.  They just moved on to saying things like, quote, "Guwop is up for grabs now, I guess."
