Listen to Pusha T on iHeartRadio
Even though he just dropped a highly anticipated 11-track mixtape titled, The Wrath of Caine, Pusha T is very focused on his upcoming solo studio project, My Name is My Name.
For his soon to be released solo project, Pusha used three classic hip-hop albums as a blueprint for his own work:
- Jay-Z - Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life
- Mase - Harlem World
- The Notorious B.I.G - Life After Death
From studying and listening to these culture staples, he managed to figure out how certain cuts from these albums like Biggie's "My Downfall", and Jay's "Money Cash H---" were so hardcore but still managed to get major play in the club. And how Mase was able to take old R&B records and make them feel good.
Pusha wants mimic those sound and bring that feel back. He says, "I still want to make rough records but be in the club. It don't gotta be trap to be the party and it doesn't gotta be R&B and not be the party and I'm trying to articulate this to producers."
There is no official release date yet for My Name is My Name, but it is set to drop before the year is over.
