Common also happens to be the most finest man on the damn planet. Sheesh.  This month he sits down with Rolling Out magazine and talks about a variety of things including his new book, his music, and upcoming projects. Check out the full interview here

J. Cole: Just Can't Get Enough

Qwazaar & Batsauce - Still Hurts

Hip-Hop has heard its fair share of weird names. And this duo is no stranger to that trend. Qwazaar and Batsauce (wtf right?) This song called "Still Hurts" is off the "Style Be The King LP" that was released on September 13th. From what I've heard off the album their sound varies from song to song. Some tracks are soulful then I hear some reggae inspired sounds mixed with some live band sound (think The Roots). Enjoy. iD

Evidence - You (prod. DJ Premier)
One third of the legendary Dilated Peoples, Evidence is finally ready to release the highly anticipated album "Cats and Dogs" later this month after signing with Rhymesayers (Brother Ali, Murs, Atmosphere). Peep the first single here, produced by the one and only DJ Premier. Alchemist makes a cool cameo too *CA ALL DAY*

Sincere "Each One Teach One" prod. by Nima Fadavi

831 stand up for local talent Sincere! I appreciate this video for being 100 percent organic and real and the same goes for the lyrics. It’s all about saying how you feel and telling the truth when it comes expression of self – I just love music that presents itself in such a undeniable manner; I have to listen, and watch again.. The homegrown production comes from another 831 local; Nima Fadavi , who laces it just right with a feeling of nostalgia in the sound. Great work and a great representation of the 831. Woop!

Kyle Rapps ft Talib Kweli "Universe Traveler"

Pete Rock & Smif N Wessun feat. Freeway "Roses"

"The (R)evolution Of Immortal Technique"

Immortal Technique is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met, he's extremely intelligent and so genuine in his cause and movement. If you ever questioned his credentials or just thought he was crazy, this film will surely convince there is much to learn.  Although the release date is still unknown, we've got the trailer here below for you to check out with appearances from  Ice-T, Woody Harrelson, Poison Pen, Dr. Cornel West, DJ Green Lantern and more. peep!

Los Rakas 'Chancletas y Camisetas Bordada’ EP

Los Rakas have been exploding onto the scene with their unique blend of music from all the places they've called home; Panama (plena, dancehall, reggae) to Oakland, California (hip-hop, hyphy, r&b, experimental). I absolutely loooove these guys!! So excited for the EP to drop August 23.  Click the artwork to listen now and grab the single “Ta Lista”

Da Brat: Then and Now

A long way from bandannas, loc braids, and baggy jeans, Da Brat-ta-taaaat aka Shawntae Harris pulled a chameleon move and shows us that she's just as much glam as she is street with her fashion. So beautiful!

Yeezy Taught Me

Kanye West has an eclectic choice in women, who all happen to be models (sheer coincidence). Ye' is pictured here with Brasilera Lais Ribeiro, and something about his experession looks...questionable.

Brother Ali: Performance @ Erlhsm College feats C-Rayz Walz
I can't ever get over how different looking Brother Ali is - especially while watching him perform. He's got one of the illest rap voices and and a crazy look. Many of us have been following his music for years, I think it's so interesting how his progressions as a human have also translated to his music. Recently, Brother Ali was also on NPR after being recognized for his accomplishments.  woop woop!

Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" Breaks Record For Consective Weeks In Top 10
(source: www.hiphopdx.com)

Queens rapper Nicki Minaj is continuing to break records with her debut album Pink Friday. According to a Tweet made by Nicki Minaj earlier this week Pink Friday has broken the record for the female rap album with the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

“Now 14 weeks ; PINK FRIDAY BREAKS the RECORD for MOST CONSECUTIVE weeks in the TOP 10 by a female rap album on Billboard's 200,” Nicki Minaj Tweeted on Wednesday, March 2.

Weeks after its release Pink Friday sold 33,000 copies last week and managed to secure the Number 9 spot on the Billboard 200.

Not many albums by female Hip Hop artists have reached such accolades. Lil Kim’s The Notorious KIM, which debuted at Number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2000 only managed to remain in the Top 10 for two consecutive weeks. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill comes close to Nicki Minaj’s new record with 10 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200.

Oakland Rapper Reaches $ettlement after police planted gun  amazing story! (source: www.hiphopdx.com)

Oakland rapper Zoe Tha Roasta reached a $300,000 settlement with the city of Oakland, California, after police planted a gun on him.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that former officer Ramon Alcantar planted a gun on the rapper as he was leaving a wake for his aunt in June 2006.

According to the rapper, he was detained by Alcantar, who placed him in the back of his squad car and said "I found your gun."

Despite publicly protesting, Zoe was charged with several weapons offenses, and spent 18 months in jail before the charges were dropped in 2008.

"This was an important case for holding the police officers accountable for their misconduct," said the rapper's attorney John Burris "Because Mr. Hall has a criminal record, the officers claimed a weapon found in a car was his when the evidence was clear that the gun belonged to someone else."

Zoe will receive $175,000 from Oakland, and the rest will be in attorney fees

I love how much Yeezy loves himself..seriously though
Ye' is recession free! He just went Platinum for "My Dark Twisted Fantasy" and did not waste a single moment in treating himself. The 18-carat-gold watch took over five months to make and features a gold-toned mother-of-pearl dial with white, yellow, brown and black diamonds for Kanye’s image, along with two Swiss quartz chronograph movements. The bezel also contains large diamonds. In all, the watch contains eight carats worth of stones. All that for just $180K!? It ain't nuthin to a boss.

Word on the Ave is....
Lil Kim has hired a Nicki Minaj look-a-like for her new video, "Black Friday" which is a diss song aimed at the Young Money starlett. You know - I love Kim I really do! Jay-Z reacts to To Hammers "diss" song
Most of ya'll know by now about the apparent "beef" between Jay-Z and MC Hammer (if you have no idea what I'm talking about refer to Youtube). MC Hammer implied Jay-Z had sold his soul to the devil, this is why he has had so much success with music and is making millions (LOL....okay) - anyway I think Jay-Z's reaction is fair, and true. Too $hort Arrested for Assault

On July 15th, Too Short was arrested in Idaho for an assault that occured at the Knitting Factory. Rumors circulated that assault was

allegedly because security at the venue would not allow Too Short to bring underage women backstage, which was also a drinking area. I’ve never seen Too Short really get caught up in what is written about him, but he felt it was important to speak on this, peep his statement below:

“The accusations against me regarding my arrest in Idaho on July 15th, were untrue and exaggerated,” he said. “Normally I would ignore rumors, but because of the nature of the story that’s being spread I had to say something. I don’t blame these outlets for running with the story because it’s about Too $hort the ‘dirty rapper’ who has never had a scandal and it involved the words ‘underage girls.’ However, due to my work with young people in Oakland I am extremely outraged at the way I am being portrayed. The incident that night was completely taken out of context and I have not and never will take advantage of any woman that is underage. Never that!

“These days people believe everything that they see on TV and these blogs,” he continued. “I have been dedicated to youth organizations and wish to continue to support them and I do not want my community and especially young people that look up to me to think that this is the type of thing that I would do.”

The Roots' ?uestlove, Raphael Saadiq & Amy Winehouse Form Group

   by Andres Vasquez

Amy Winehouse has made a name for herself in the music world after winning various awards for her critically acclaimed projects Frank and Back to Black, but her fame has also given way to controversy surrounding drug usesuicide attemptsailments and tabloid fodder. Aside from all of this, she has also shown her appreciation for Hip Hop with collaborations including work with Ghostface Killah. Rappers have given her praise, including Jay-Z and Nas, whom she wrote "Me and Mr. Jones" about.

Now, Winehouse is planning a project with one of Hip Hop's most acclaimed producers, Questlove, the drummer behind The Roots and Raphael Saddiq who will be playing the guitar. No name has yet been given to the group.

In the past, Winehouse was denied a visa for posessing cannabis and for an assault she has been cleared of since. As a result, getting together has been a challenge, but one that technology has allowed them to tackle.

According to The Sun, Questlove confirmed that the show will go on.

"The group will definitely happen. It's just the closest she can come to the States is Jamaica. I'm off to France soon so I'll see if she's up for discussing it over dinner. We're Skype-ing the shit out of each other."

Book Claims Death Row Records Was An FBI Front
by Slava Kuperstein

In the book The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders: U.S. Intelligence’s Murderous Targeting of Tupac, MLK, Malcolm, The Panthers, Hendrix, Marley, Rappers & Linked Ethnic Leftists, it is claimed that Death Row Records was a front for the FBI in order to subvert black activism.
Columbia University graduate John Potash, the book's author, says his research shows that the FBI deliberately target Tupac Shakur due to his influence in the African-American community through Hip Hop.

"What I think it was was that he had become the most influential black man in the black community in the country," Potash, a Baltimore native, told The Baltimore City Paper. "The CIA and U.S. intelligence, what they have to do is win the hearts and minds of the people. They don't want to control us by force, they want us to control ourselves by having us believe in a certain way"
